Newborn Care at Advanced Pediatric Associates

You’ve prepared the nursery and packed your hospital bag — now let us help you prepare for your baby’s care.

Choosing a pediatrician is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your newborn. At Advanced Pediatric Associates, we are honored to care for families from the very first days of life. Our compassionate team is here to guide, reassure, and support you as you begin this exciting new chapter.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, we’re here to answer your questions and help you feel confident every step of the way.

Your Baby's First Visit

We recommend scheduling your baby’s first appointment within three days after hospital discharge.

As soon as you receive your discharge date, please call our Patient Care Line at
303-699-6200 to schedule this important visit.

During your baby’s first appointment, we will:

  • Check your baby’s weight and growth
  • Perform a complete head-to-toe physical exam
  • Review feeding (breastfeeding or formula)
  • Discuss sleep, safety, and newborn care
  • Answer all of your questions — big or small

Please bring any hospital records related to your baby’s care, including:

  • Newborn screening results
  • Vitamin K injection documentation
  • Hepatitis B vaccination record

Be sure to add your baby to your insurance plan within 30 days of birth and select one of our physicians as the primary care provider if required by your plan.

Circumcision Services

If you are considering circumcision, please inform our care coordinator when scheduling your newborn’s first visit.

We recommend that circumcision be performed as soon as feasible after birth — ideally within the first 7 days. If the procedure is not completed in the hospital, our physicians can perform it safely in our office after discharge.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

Ongoing Newborn Care

The first few weeks of life are a time of rapid growth and adjustment. After your baby’s initial visit, we will continue to see your newborn regularly to monitor:

  • Feeding progress
  • Weight gain
  • Development
  • Overall health

At two weeks of age, your baby will return for their second newborn screen. From there, your child will follow our recommended well-care schedule throughout infancy and childhood to ensure they are thriving at every stage.
