back to top Tips for Calling Our Office
Emergencies: Call 911
In the event of a life threatening emergency, please call 911. Such emergencies include: child not breathing, severe choking episode, loss of consciousness, seizure, or any other life threatening / serious illness or injury.
Urgent Medical Issues/Minor Emergencies: Call 303-699-6200, Option 9
If your child has an urgent (but not life threatening) medical issue such as difficulty breathing, lacerations or other injuries please call our patient care line and choose option #9. One of our triage nurses will assess the situation and determine if you need to be seen in an emergency room, as an "urgent visit" at one of our offices, or if a regular appointment will be sufficient. If you are brought in as an "urgent visit", you will be seen by the first available provider (rather than waiting for an appointment).
When the Office is Closed: Call 303-699-6200 for Serious Medical Situations
We provide after-hours assistance for your serious medical concerns evenings, weekends, and holidays through The Children's Hospital After Hours service with back-up by our on-call physician. If your child is sick, we recommend that you first check the "Is Your Child Sick" page of our website before calling. If our web-site information is not sufficient or not appropriate for your needs, please call us and our answering service will take your information and send a message to the after-hours service. We ask that you disable all call blocking features on your telephone. You will usually receive a call from a nurse in approximately 30-45 minutes. If medically necessary, the after-hours nurse will contact our on-call physician. If you do not receive a return call from a nurse or physician within 45 minutes, please call back and let the answering service know this is the second time you have called. It is APA policy that our on-call physician will not authorize any refill requests or prescribe new medications by phone.
Our answering service can not accept calls regarding appointments or provider messages. Please call during our regular business hours to cancel an appointment or request to send a message to a provider.

Sick Care Appointments, Option 1
Sick visit appointments can usually be scheduled same-day or next-day depending on the urgency of the illness and the time of your call. To make for timelier processing of your call, we ask that you have the following information -- child's name, date of birth, address, responsible party name, and insurance information -- readily available when you call us:
- If you are unsure of whether your child needs an appointment, please choose Option 2 to speak with one of our nurses for assessment. Please have your child with you so that you may accurately answer our nurse's questions.
- We strive to keep appointments available during the last hour of the day for those children who need to be seen after school or day care. Please inform your day care provider to alert you prior to 3:00 pm if your child becomes ill.
Consultation Appointments, Option 1
Consultation appointments are longer appointments for children with an ongoing health concern, including, allergy/asthma, gynecological and behavioral concerns. These appointments can usually be scheduled within 10 days. The best times to call to make a consultation appointment and minimize your wait time on the phone are Tuesday - Friday between 10 a.m. - noon and from 2 - 4 p.m.

We recommend comprehensive well care exams at the following ages: 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, and annually thereafter. High school students playing sports require an annual well care exam. Our schedule opens 2 - 3 months in advance to give our parents optimal time for planning these important visits. Nurse Advice: Call 303-699-6200, Option 2
Our registered nurses provide a valuable service to our patients. Their primary role is to determine the degree and urgency of a patient's illness and recommend appropriate action (appointment or medical care advice). They also provide general health care advice and education as an extension of our medical providers.
Our nurse advice line is designed to give callers the following options:
- To speak with one of our registered nurses for patient assessment -- to determine if an appointment is needed or provide medical care advice
- To speak with one of our registered nurses regarding questions about newborn health
- OR to leave a message for a call-back from one of our registered nurses for non-urgent general health care advice or questions
If you have a general health care question or would like non-urgent advice on a pediatric topic -- we suggest that you first visit the"Is Your Child Sick" and "Pediatric Health Library" pages of our website. We think you will be impressed with the wide array and quality of the information available. If you still have questions or need additional information, you are welcome to call our nurse advice line and leave a message for a call-back. Our triage nurses are courteous, educated and experienced and follow a set of nationally recognized pediatric protocols.
Provider Messages: Call 303-699-6200, Option 1
Please call our patient care line at 303-699-6200, Option 1 to leave a non-urgent message for a provider. A patient care representative will send the provider a message if he/she is in the office that day, or can send the message to another provider if your provider is not in the office. Please note that it may be 24-48 hours before a provider is able to respond to a message. If your child is sick or your message requires a more urgent follow-up, your call will be transferred to one of our registered nurses. Our nurses follow nationally-recognized pediatric protocols and APA policies when determining a course of action. If you are calling because your child's symptoms have not improved you will be asked to schedule a follow-up appointment. If medically appropriate, our nurses will consult with one of our providers.
Prescription Refills
We recommend that most refill requests be directed to your pharmacy. If necessary, they will contact our office for approval. If there are no refills left on your child's prescription, you may request a refill online by visiting our Online Forms/Payments page or by calling our automated refill line at 720-870-0244, or 303-699-6200, Option 3. We normally require 48 business hours to process refill requests. Please be advised your child should be current on well-care exams and follow-up appointments or your request may be denied. No refill requests are approved by our after-hours service or the on-call physician.
Lab or X-ray Results: Call 303-699-6200, Option 5
It is our goal to call patients with lab and x-ray results as soon as possible.
