Why Choose Advanced Pediatric Associates?

The partners at Advanced Pediatrics have taken special care to develop a model for pediatric care which combines the benefits and services of a larger group practice with the personalized care of a smaller physician office. We are committed to our customer service slogan --"Big enough to meet your needs ... Small enough to show we care!" Our providers and staff strive to provide personalized, compassionate care, while our larger size and years of experience allow us to offer a wide range of services to meet your needs.

Our History and Philosophy
For over 35 years, Advanced Pediatric Associates has been dedicated to providing quality health care to infants, children, adolescents and their families. Advanced Pediatrics was founded in 1972 by Dr. Michael Kurtz and Dr. Lee Thompson. Since then we have grown to three locations serving the communities of Aurora, Centennial and Parker. Pediatrics, and health care in general, has undergone significant advancements over the past 35 years, and Advanced Pediatrics has a history of commitment to providing the most advanced pediatric care available. Throughout our growth we have continued to focus on providing high quality health care in a friendly and nurturing environment.

Our provider staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants that specialize in providing pediatric care for children from infancy through adolescence. We strive to foster a caring partnership with families, working "hand in hand" with them to promote the best possible health for their children. Our goal is to provide a "Medical Home" to our patients, where families can expect compassionate and comprehensive care within our offices, convenient access to quality after hours advice, and professional coordination of care between our providers and community specialists and services.

We firmly believe in the importance of continuity of care (including regular well care and immunizations) and focus on the health and well being of the whole child. Our comprehensive services are provided to address a wide range of patients' needs, including preventative medicine, acute (sick) and chronic illnesses, disabilities, developmental and behavioral issues, adolescent/gynecological concerns, multiple births and prematurity. With a dedication to advancements in clinical care, customer service and technology, we are committed to providing the most advanced pediatric health care available.

We understand that raising a child is a rewarding and challenging experience! Our goal is to help you enjoy this experience and work with you, "hand in hand", to ensure that your child's full potential is reached.

What Makes Advanced Pediatrics Special?
With over 35 years of experience, we are dedicated to providing quality health care and outstanding customer service to our patients. Our Nurse Advice Line has set the gold standard for providing pediatric triage advice to families, and has been recognized as a model for other practices in the local pediatric community. Advanced Pediatrics has been a leader in implementing an electronic medical records system (EMR). Our EMR makes patients' medical records immediately available to our providers and staff at all of our locations, resulting in greater continuity of care, improved clinical safety, and increased customer service. We value our patients' time and do our very best to minimize wait times. We utilize a sophisticated scheduling system that gives our providers the necessary time to see patients based on the patient's medical needs, and we never double-book appointments unless we are faced with an emergency situation. In order to consistently provide the most advanced care to our patients, our clinical committee meets monthly to review the latest advancements in clinical care. We highly value and support continuing education for our providers and staff. In addition, our providers have a close relationship with specialists and staff at The Children's Hospital and participate in the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center pediatric teaching program.

Importance of a "Medical Home"
Choosing a medical home for your child is an important decision. A medical home provides the framework for your family and your health care provider to work together to build a partnership that assures your child quality health care, as well as consistent support for your family during infancy, childhood and adolescence. In addition to quality and continuity of care, a medical home fosters mutual respect and strong communication.

Advanced Pediatrics prides itself on being a medical home for its patients and families. We recognize the importance of providing a wide variety of services for our families to meet their varying needs. Our nurse advice line, web-site, and newsletter are all examples of providing value added services to our patients and families. When we are closed, our after-hours service through The Children's Hospital extends the same advice patients would receive from our office.

The providers at Advanced Pediatrics recommend contacting our office anytime - day or night - when your child needs medical care or advice. During business hours, our nurse advice line can help you decide if an appointment is advisable or if home care advice might be a better option. If your child is sick when our office is closed, you may talk to registered nurses with The Children's Hospital After Hours Service, who use the same pediatric care protocols as our nurses use during the day. Our on-call physician is available 24 hours a day for issues that require more immediate attention. Each time your child is seen for an appointment or you speak with one of our nurses or the after hours service, information is integrated into your child's medical record to ensure it is complete and care is consistent.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently released a public service announcement regarding the importance of consistent pediatric care provided by a primary care physician. An excerpt of this announcement reads:

"Parents need to be cautious when considering seeking care for their children at in-store clinics... Consistency is key to proper health care. With every visit and phone call, the pediatrician is learning about your child's health care needs, enabling her to make decisions with complete knowledge and information. This is why children's health care is ideally delivered or coordinated through the child's 'medical home', the office of the primary-care pediatrician."

Consistent with this statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics, we recommend against patients seeking care at retail based health clinics or urgent care facilities, as providers at these clinics have no access to your child's medical record or health history. If you believe your child needs medical attention after hours, we recommend you call us first and our After Hours Service or On-Call Physician will recommend whether your child should be seen. If your child needs to be seen after hours we recommend he or she be seen at one of The Children's Hospital locations. Records from The Children's Hospital will be faxed to our office and incorporated into your child's medical record.

For life threatening emergencies, always call 911.
