Meet Our Provider Staff!

All of our pediatricians are board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and are members of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNP), Child Health Associates (CHA) and Physician Assistants (PA) employed by Advanced Pediatric Associates have received specialized graduate level education and training in pediatrics, and work in a partnership with our pediatricians to provide primary health care services to patients. They are licensed and / or certified in their specialty.

We Are Pleased to Introduce the Members of Our Clinical Provider Staff!

Our provider staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants that specialize in pediatric care for children from infancy through adolescence. These providers bring many combined years of experience, a wide range of specialized interests, and enthusiasm and devotion to providing the very best in health care to our patients. As part of our dedication to continuing medical education, our providers attend a number of clinical presentations each year, and our clinical committee meets regularly to review the latest advancements in clinical care. In addition, our providers have a close relationship with specialists and staff at Children's Hospital Colorado and participate in the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center pediatric teaching program.

Some of the providers at Advanced Pediatrics see patients at more than one office. In general, we recommend that patients choose two or three providers whom they prefer to see most often. Our care coordinators will do their best to accommodate your choice of providers when making appointments. Patients are always welcome to see any of our providers that have an appointment available.

Board Certified Pediatricians

Freeman Ginsburg MD, FAAP

Dr. Ginsburg graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1966, and completed his pediatric internship and residency training at the University of Minnesota Hospital in 1969. He served two years as a pediatrician for the U.S. Army in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and then worked as a pediatrician for the Children's Medical Center. He joined Advanced Pediatrics in 1981, becoming a partner in 1982. Over the past thirty years, he has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has served on the Medical Executive Committee and the Clinical Faculty Committee at The Children's Hospital. For the past ten years, Dr. Ginsburg has been nominated to the "Best Doctors of America". In addition, he is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a physician reviewer for the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care. His interests in pediatrics focus on working with toddlers and adolescents. His personal interests include biking, golf and spending time with his family. He and his wife have two grown children and one grandson.

Bradley D. Kurtz DO, FAAP

Dr. Bradley Kurtz graduated from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in 2000, completing his pediatric residency training at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. During his residency he was voted Best Pediatric Resident by the Tulane medical students. Dr. Bradley Kurtz joined Advanced Pediatrics in 2004, becoming a partner in 2007. Prior to joining Advanced Pediatrics, he worked as a pediatrician at The Children's Medical Center in Covington, Louisiana. Dr. Bradley Kurtz is a D.O. (doctor of osteopathic medicine), completing four years of medical school specializing in pediatrics. As an osteopath, he is trained to treat the entire patient as a whole, rather than focusing on one system or body part. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the clinical faculty at Children's Hospital Colorado, and serves on the Peds Connect Governance Committee at Children's Hospital Colorado. In 2014, Dr. Bradley Kurtz was named a "Top Doctor" by Denver's 5280 Magazine. His interests in pediatrics focus on the overall well being of children being raised in an ever changing and more challenging world. His personal interests include travel, soccer, running, hiking, music and, most importantly, being an involved father to his two young sons. Dr. Bradley Kurtz is the son of Dr. Michael Kurtz, one of the founding partners at Advanced Pediatrics.

Alison Auster MD, FAAP

Dr. Auster graduated from The University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, in 1998, following an undergraduate degree in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Michigan. She completed her pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2001. Prior to joining Advanced Pediatrics in 2014, Dr. Auster worked as a primary care pediatrician for Denver Health and an emergency room pediatrician for Health One hospitals in both Aurora and Denver. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Auster enjoys all aspects of pediatrics, from preventative care to serious illness and injury, with a focus on each child's social and emotional development. Her personal interests include cooking, running, figure skating and spending time with family. She and her husband have a son and a daughter.

Bethany M. Carvajal MD, FAAP, IBCLC

Dr. Carvajal graduated from University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2009, following an undergraduate degree in molecular biology at University of Colorado, Boulder, where she was a Boettcher Scholar. During medical school, Dr. Carvajal worked as a research assistant for the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at the Phoenix Children's Hospital / Maricopa Medical Center in 2013. Dr. Carvajal joined Advanced Pediatric Associates in 2013. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and is certified in pediatric advanced life support. Her interests in pediatrics focus on allergies and asthma, as well as breastfeeding support for new mothers. Her personal interests include hiking, skiing, running and spending time with her family. She and her husband have two sons and are thrilled to be back in their hometown of Colorado.

Katherine Truettner DO, FAAP

Dr. Truettner graduated in the top ten percent of her class from the Rocky Vista College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado, in 2013, following an undergraduate degree in biology at Syracuse University in New York, where she graduated summa cum laude. Dr. Truettner completed her pediatric residency at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School in 2016. During medical school and her residency, Dr. Truettner was involved in medical outreach programs to Haiti, Peru and Guatemala. Dr. Truettner joined Advanced Pediatric Associates in 2016. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is certified in pediatric advanced life support and neonatal resuscitation. Prior to medical school, Dr. Truettner worked as an EMT for Colorado Children’s Hospital. Her interests in pediatrics focus on sports medicine, newborn care and international medicine. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, reading, painting, singing and playing the guitar.

Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

Nancy Barber Starr RN, MS, CPNP-PC, PNP-BC

Nancy Barber Starr graduated from the University of Colorado School of Nursing with a masters of science in pediatric nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 1980. She was a clinical nurse specialist for Children's Hospital Perinatal Program until 1984, when she moved to Houston, Texas to work as a pediatric nurse practitioner in a private practice. In 1989, she moved back to Denver and joined Advanced Pediatric Associates. She is an editor, author and reviewer for several pediatric textbooks and journals, and has been involved on a national level with the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Since 1996 she has been nominated annually to Who's Who in America, has served as a child care health consultant to a local preschool and is involved in other community activities.  Her interests in pediatrics focus on behavior / mental health and development issues (especially adoption and ADHD), and she enjoys providing care for our Spanish speaking patients. Her personal interests include crafts, travel and activities with her children. She and her husband have two children, the younger of whom they adopted from China.
